WE ARE ENGAGED! Words I never thought I would say. Even writing this now I am still in such disbelief that this amazing man has chosen me as his life partner. This past week has honestly been a blur. Between the celebrations, moments of pure giddiness and overwhelming outpouring of love from our family and friends I am still in awe of how lucky we are. I hope this feeling never goes away!
Our Engagement Story
As many of you may have seen, Justin and I took a week long vacation to spend some time in Northern Vermont to enjoy the snow. Now secretly I had hoped for months that this would be the time that he asked me that special question but as the vacation drew nearer, doubt filled my head and I had little expectations for our trip.
Our vacation was magical for so many reasons but after 3 days on the mountain, we woke up early one morning hoping to see beautiful falling snow. The ski resort at Jay Peak has a tram that takes skiers and riders to the top of the mountain but due to weather reasons it hadn’t been open all week. Lucky for us, on this morning the tram was running!
As soon as Justin realized the tram was running, he rushed us into the line so we could ride the tram to the top. We boarded the crammed tram car and rode what seemed like the longest 5 minutes to the top. We didn’t bring our ski gear as he said he just wanted to soak up the views and snow… or so I thought.
Once we finally got to the top of the mountain (after hiking the treacherous iced rock face) it was complete silence and awe as the snow fell all around us. We took a few selfies and soaked up all that was in front of us. Then Justin turned to me grabbed my hands and got down on bended knee.
As soon as I realized what was happening I covered my face and began to cry. Despite partially blacking out in the moment, I remember him saying some of the sweetest things that make my face flush thinking about them even now. He then said my full name, opened a ring box and asked me to marry him.
I cried for the next few minutes and was only able to articulate words when Justin asked if that meant I has said “yes” (as if my emotions didn’t speak for themselves). We hugged, kissed and sat in the snow relishing the moment.
I didn’t remember looking at the ring during the proposal so I asked him if I could see it and try it on. Its the most beautiful ring I have ever seen and the design and attention to detail show just how thoughtful Justin was when picking it our for me.
I also jokingly asked if he had asked my parents and he assured me he had. I then asked if my sister knew and he said “no”, which made me sob even more knowing that I would be able to share the news with her.
It was the most perfect moment that embodied everything our relationship is. Simple, thoughtful and oh so full of love.
No photographer. No crowd. Just us embracing one another in the silence of the falling snow. It still feels like a dream.
We came down the mountain with the dopiest smiles on our faces knowing we were holding on to the most perfect secret. We spent the rest of the day enjoying the mountain and the fresh snow relishing the day we would always remember.
Later that evening after dinner, we called our families and sent pictures to our friends. Only our immediate families knew he was going to pop the question which made our announcement that much sweeter to share.
I cannot wait to marry this man! He is the most caring man who always puts others first, knows me better than I know myself, makes me laugh when I don’t want to and never for a second makes me doubt his love for me.
I am so excited to share this chapter of our lives with you so be ready for all the wedding spam!
