Happy Wednesday friends and welcome to my very own wedding Wednesday series! The goal of this blogging series is to share a little piece of our wedding planning journey each Wednesday until we make it to the big day! EEK! Quite frankly, I am still in shock that I am even getting to say words like fiancee and wedding! Today I figured I would share the part of our story that started almost 9 years ago.
How We Met
It was Halloween 2010 and I was a freshman at UNCW, my roommates at the time had spent the afternoon convincing me to go to this party with them and some friends. I remember protesting since at the time I wasn’t even 18 and had limited “nightlife” experience.
I am not sure by who or how, but I was convinced to attend and I have never been more thankful for any other decision in my entire life. I donned my Eli Manning jersey, biker shorts and even wore knee tights and my old cleats to finish out the outfit. Looking back I don’t remember much about the night (the whole limited nightlife experience also meant I had no tolerance for alcohol) but I do remember meeting this cute blonde haired guy with the most amazing smile.
The next day, I realized I didn’t get his full name or number and had no way of contacting him. But me being the super stalker I am, found him on Facebook through mutual friends and did the daring thing and messaged him first! After messaging back and forth a few times we realized that we were both from Wilmington and went to rival high schools.
We spent my entire freshman year hanging out casually with friends. Turns out he liked me more than I realized and I ended up blowing my chance with him that summer and we drifted apart.
But two years and a few failed relationships later, on a whim he texted me “hey killer” and we’ve been together ever since. Through 5 moves, 2 graduations, numerous new jobs and everything in between we have walked this path side by side.
It hasn’t always been easy but its been more than worth it. Looking back I don’t think we were meant to be together so early on. I mean, we were meant to meet one another at that Halloween party but the timing wasn’t right. I don’t know if our relationship would have survived if we hadn’t “found each other” later in life. We each needed to grow up and find ourselves before we could find each other again.
There is a lot more to our story but this bumpy and crazy beginning is how we met and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
